Course Description This exciting course combines effective modalities for the experienced or entry level
school -based therapist.  Drawing on  28 years of pediatric experience and hundreds of hours of school based
practice, Anne shares personal experience as to the most effective intervention strategies for a  wide variety of
 challenges.

Utilizing case studies, classroom vignettes and  current research, Anne organizes the 2 days into specific target
lessons which form the foundation for therapeutic intervention in the educational setting. In addition to direct student
service strategies and consultative methods, Anne also addresses the needs of administrators, teachers,
paraprofessionals and parents through her effective in-service training programs. A sample training will be
demonstrated with reproducible handouts for you to share with your teams.

About the Presenter:

Anne Buckley-Reen, OTR, RYT is a pediatric occupational therapist with over 28 years of clinical experience. An OT as well as a registered yoga instructor, Anne is known for her innovative classroom and therapy programs. For the past 7 years, she has incorporated  therapeutic yoga techniques into hundreds of classrooms  including those with highly challenged student populations.


Over the past 16 years Anne has participated in several  pediatric studies and grant funded projects.  She has
consulted in schools nationally and is a sought after presenter to her peers as well as to  school administrators,
teachers, paraprofessional and parents.  Anne resides with her husband and 3 sons by the shore in NY.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn 

  1. Where to begin: How to identify underlying and contributing causes of school difficulties..
  2. A variety of treatment approaches and the “who, what, when, where, how and why”.
  3. Structuring developmentally appropriate, educationally relevant and motivating interventions.
  4. How to implement effective classroom strategies* with limited time, space and resources.
  5. Push in or pull out?  Who needs what? Who decides?
  6. How to prioritize treatment approaches for maximum effectiveness.
  7. Guidelines for measuring and documenting progress.  Sample sheets, observation forms and data collection
  8. methods provided.
  9. Effective parent, teacher communication  and in-service training.
  10. And…last but not least….Thinking outside the box! This years’ program will include Learning Labs where the
  11. participants will directly experience a variety of therapeutic strategies.
