Yoga Therapy For The Child With Developmental Challenges

Course Description:                                      

This workshop teaches the clinician to a balanced therapeutic yoga approach with modifications for various populations. Through experiential labs you will learn the physical, physiological, regulatory, emotional and sensory- motor benefits of YOGA FOR THE CHILD WITH DEVELOPMENTAL CHALLENGES.  Learn the benefits and modifications for special populations. Use of breath control and rhythm will be emphasized to facilitate regulation and organization. A sequence of postures will be analyzed to highlight the therapeutic aspects of each. Neuro-physiological benefits will be described and enhanced by videotaped case studies. 

Case studies will highlight the therapeutic benefits of the program with populations challenged by:

Degenerative Conditions
Autism Spectrum Disorders

PDD/anxiety Disorder
LD and motor Planning Issues
ADD/ADHD
General developmental delays


Participant Requirements: Please wear comfortable clothing, suitable for movement. A yoga mat and light blanket is required for all attendees. For additional comfort, participants may want to bring a pillow for sitting on the floor.

Credits: This course meets the criteria for 12 continuing education hours (1.2 CUES)

Faculty: This new and exciting course is taught by popular presenter and yoga therapist, Anne Buckley-Reen, OTR, RYT.   Anne has spent the last 10 years utilizing therapeutic yoga to address her clients goals with great success.  She has implemented individualized classroom programs in both regular and special education settings. Her experience with implementing yoga home and school programs is incorporated into this innovative 2 day course.  Appropriate for the seasoned therapist, yoga instructor or motivated beginner, this course will inspire, energize and organize your approach to learning about and implementing therapeutic yoga with your clients. 

Anne also lectures nationally on topics related to development, sleep, nutrition and school based therapy techniques.  She is the co-author of the SANE Approach.

<>Target Audience:
This course is designed to  expand the therapeutic perspective of PT’s Ot’s and ST’s working with children with challenges.  In addition to enhancing understanding and application of  yoga to address therapeutic goals, this course will also help the therapist establish an organized and developmentally effective protocol for addressing a wide range of challenges.
